By Sanjib Mukherjee,
Once your mind becomes illuminated, this entire creation becomes a beacon of light. If however you remain in darkness inside, creation becomes dull and extremely dark. The way you see the world totally depends on you. Our mind consist of two important facets, the unconscious and consciousness.
Meditation is simply a methodology of transforming the unconscious mind into the consciousness through a practice of inner focus. Mantras and chanting are useful for inducing a state of rest, but they are more akin to hypnosis and not meditation in themselves. Consciousness normally makes up less than 10% of our mind, with unconsciousness the remaining 90%. By consciousness we mean states of mind where you are fully aware of what you are doing (e.g reading this screen, or hearing any noise from around you).
The unconsciousness mind is concerned around functions which we may not always be totally aware of (e.g. the blinking of your eyes, the heart beating, gravity pulling your feet to the ground etc). Our unconscious mind is what keeps us alive and lightens every component of our lives. It contains our memories, impressions, intuition and creativity; in fact it contains the very source of our inner soul.
By focusing on the unconscious during meditation, we allow this vastly under utilised component of the mind to shine through into our conscious awareness; thus allowing more of this inner light to shine through. The challenge for any yogi is to eventually unite both the conscious and unconsciousness mind so we become fully aware of every thought which enters out path.
When our minds become radiant within, the world becomes a more harmonious place. Our actions become pure and even the mundane becomes sacred. The way you truly feel about yourself inside, is the way you truly perceive the world on the outside. Think about it, when you feel happy, contented and fulfilled within yourself, do you ever complain about anything life can throw at you?
Yet, whenever you feel agitated, restless and confused within, how does the rest of the outside world appear during those difficult moments? Yoga is the science of taking control of ones mind and not allowing outside forces to dictate your inner happiness. Filling your mind with the light of unconsciousness is both the practice and goal of meditation. The very moment darkness is removed from your mind, life becomes elegantly beautiful.

I think there is a typo “…challenge for any yogi is to eventually fill the entire mind with nothing but unconsciousness…”
wait I understand so one should give some time to prayers and meditation so that one can come closer to the unconscious mind and try and transfer a few impressions, experiences to the conscious stage/state -to understand oneself more better – this s my view-do not know much about yogism
Thanks Sanjib! I got it now.
yeah so I am quite clear now and will try a little to follow this in this materialistic world
thanx Sanjib

Sanjib, the concept of meditation is so beautifully explained…..feels so good to be immersed in this knowledge,
thanks for throwing an inner light in simple terms…..:)
Abs. right, Sanjeeb.
But I did not follow one thing.
You said that chanting is not meditation. I think it is. When I chant (repetatively utter), I am bringing my focus on what I want to focus on. I am going deep into that aspect of truth.
When we deeply focus on a thing, the truth of that is revealed to us.
For instance, when I chant the ‘mahamantra’;
hare krishna, hare krishna, krishna, krishna hare hare
hare ram, hare ram, ram, ram, hare hare
I am bringing my focus on not only the mantra but also on what it means to me. Krishna, to me, is the very ‘supersoul’ seated in my heart. While chanting the mantra, I am bringing my attention to my soul, thereby bypassing the conscious and the unconsciousness mind. When I go deeply into the chant, I directly connect with my ‘supersoul’, Krishna, (as, for me, there is no difference between Krishna, His name or His form or His pastimes ), thereby transcending the material realm,( which also includes the mind) for that moment.
Nice way of telling about meditation. When we are dark from inside we can’t even see the creation of God. We always stays dell and does’t want to change even. Always blaming something. When our mind is enlightened we see all the things in different way.
