As what was postulated by the great Philosophers and Psychologist, John Locke his famous theory the Tabula Rasa.

through the images and the sounds the child hears the child then learns to discriminate these signals and stimulus which is reg…istered in the child’s brain. As the child grows up with the parental supervision and guidance the child learns to respond appropriately recognizing from what is acceptable from what is not.

Indeed through one’s experience one can then justify and validate if the act or idea is good or bad.

Ultimately experience is the best teacher….no amount of reading will teach that which a real experience provides….when u move thru a particular situation, when u actually live it….thats the only and only way u learn the best. Of cour…se this doesnt mean u dont learn out of reading…..its gotta be a multipronged approach…..not all or none.

When a boy grows up….his Momma teaches him how to walk, talk etc
When he goes to school…his Teacher shows him a few more things he grows up with…
Later, his girlfriend teaches him more about LIFE
And then finally…the real learning occurs…the live experience……the WIFE!

And each has a vital role to play in the education of Man!

I think yes, definitely… I was inspired to start meditating by reading… I read LOTS and LOTS of Osho… He’s and has been a source of GREAT! inspiration for me… but one needs to be on a spiritual path… maybe it can be found in books…, I’m not sure… my personal experience is what has led me to the spiritual path, not books, and experience continues to take be the best teacher on the journey and writings on the way are a true source of learning. Every individual is truly unique, so I don’t think there can be any hard and fast rules…

I believe reading can absolutely aid one soul in learning spiritual facts. One can determine and check what had been thought to him from childhood and what was being practice at home and in school. One can absolutely discriminate the goodne…ss the book tells one what to believe and what not.

It is through personal preference belief and freewill as what is being inculcated and taught which influences one’s choice.

Reading is just 5% of the task, but what drives the seeker nearer to the Goal is assimilation with humility and attentiveness to the Guru. Just reading leads the seeker to bloated ego, which is detrimental to spiritual progress. Even if the seeker is near the Guru, but his ego is still around, all his closeness to the Guru is in vain. The seeker will miss even the subtlest of the hints from the Guru.

‎@Himadri: All of us have all the 5 senses…and we use all 5 in our daily lives. However, u mustve seen and experienced…when children study, learn science definitions, poems etc…some children read aloud, while some write down what they read and learn, and still others read quietly—this is primarily because in each individual learning happens best in a particular mode–hearing, seeing, or writing….so there can be no standard rule for all…we gotta use what suits us best.
