By Sanjib Mukherjee,
Profound peace and relaxation are the hallmarks of a great practitioner of Yoga. Yet in living in a world full of constant change, how does one keep this feeling of contentment when nothing stays the same? Yoga’s answer is simple. True inner peace is never a destination, but merely a way of travelling. Let’s take a closer look at how problems arise.
When two opposing rivers come into contact with each other, they create a huge clash, resulting in severe turmoil. However, if you place yourself right in the middle of this junction, you can actually witness the free flowing movement of the two rivers flowing in their respective directions. They seem to elegantly glide past each other in a momentary glimpse. Another interesting observation occurs when you look further down the stream. You begin to see that the two rivers merge together and with the power of their joint energies, they flow in a much stronger and cohesive unit than when they did as single entities.
The process of meeting two powerful forces may not always be smooth but their results produce a wonderful and free flowing stream of peaceful solidity. In much the same way, a student of yoga has to endure many disruptions in order to move beyond the situation at hand and reach a powerful and lasting peace. Whenever two opposing energies clash, turmoil inevitably follows but given a little time and patience to look down the line, the mass of energy runs itself smooth and everything calms down. Energies are multiplied when merged together and never weakened, so even in the face of still calmness, immense power can be experienced. Any partnership, marriage, venture etc will undergo the process of clashing with different energies and thus varying stages of turbulence at different times.
Emotional uncertainty prevails when we get stuck with the situation at hand, but the slight foresight to see a little further can help take the mind beyond our problems. Energies need to be smoothed out and then channeled along the same lines in order for peace to exist. Once these energies stabilise and move the same way, true happiness shines through. The calmness will stay until the next wave of opposing energies come through again, and thus repeating the cycle of turmoil. The ability to see the bigger picture and look beyond a momentary clash is the secret of an one pointed yogi.

quite relevant to my situation…Reminds me as its said by Lord Krishna in Gita-when faced a turmoil, one should stand in the middle of a situation to look above it … restrain from getting troubled by getting stuck wth it…problems come go …but we as a yogi practitioner ,should have a firm faith in God ..Move ahead with patience…All is welll..Thanks a lot Sanjib..!!!!!
This reminds me :
The peace of wild things by Wendell Berry
When despair grows in me
and I wake in the middle of the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting for their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
Wow, thanks for sharing Kavita…that was beautiful:)
People say “I want peace.” If you remove I (ego), and your want (desire), you are left with peace….
yes i agree with you… infact it is true, give up ego the most difficult task
Ok, we have attained inner peace and now when something is wrong, and your still calm people around us question our sincerity with why we’re not worried at all when we are supposed to be…. They think we are no more responsible. Hw to deal with this situation?
Hi Rashmi….when you become calm, everyone around you becomes calm………if people around you question your sincerity…let them………whether anyone praises or criticizes you…… you remain centred…thats the goal of a one pointed yogi:)
That was a nice topic and discussion.Be centered with sincerity and calmness will flow on its own…..thanks Sanjb !!!!
Turmoil or chaos or whatever happens is all outside, but the moment we dwell in inner self we strt hearing the voice of silence which is apps. Godly. Only 1 thing has to be given a food of thought that wether we are the master of the situations or the situations are our master.. we are controlling them or they are controlling us.
The realization itself brings us to point zero… as in gita during Mahabharata, was that Krishna was not knowing the result?.. no, he was well aware but he was still calm as a detached observer or say SAKSHI DRASHTA. The same thing is applicable for us too. Be a detached observer we will find our life contented or in other words NYAARA PYAARA too.
